The Patron, The Artist, and the Price of a Stamp

Rustic Wooden Carving of a Man with Beard

For as long as there have been artists, there have been patrons.

P.S. I’m not sure who this incredible artist is, I took the photo in Sointula, BC. in June of 2026.

The great painters, writers, musicians, and makers we celebrate today rarely created in a vacuum. Behind many of them was a person, a family, or a community who believed in their work enough to support it. Patrons helped artists buy supplies, pay rent, keep the lights on, and most importantly, continue creating.

While The Rusty Rocker is far from a Renaissance workshop or a grand art studio, the principle is much the same.

I know that $10 a month is real money. In today's economy, every dollar seems to have a job already. Groceries cost more, bills cost more, and even simple pleasures can feel like luxuries. Believe me, I feel it too.

When someone joins Letters from the Road, that contribution isn't just paying for a letter. It helps cover the very real costs of postage, printing, paper, envelopes, art supplies, website fees, and all the little expenses that come with creating something by hand. It also helps compensate me for the time, energy, creativity, and care that goes into every piece of mail that arrives in your mailbox.

Each month, you're not receiving an automated email or another digital notification competing for your attention. You're receiving something tangible. A piece of art. A story. A little surprise. A reminder that real connection still exists in a world of endless scrolling.

And if we're being honest, many of us already spend $10 a month on subscriptions we barely use. Streaming services we forget to watch. Apps we haven't opened in weeks. Memberships we signed up for and forgot about.

For the same price, The Rusty Rocker delivers something personal, handcrafted, and created specifically for people who appreciate nostalgia, storytelling, vintage treasures, and old-fashioned mail.

Whether you join for a season or stay for years, please know how grateful I am for every subscriber who chooses to support this creative little corner of the world. Your support doesn't just pay for stamps. It keeps the stories coming, the illustrations flowing, and The Rusty Rocker rocking along.

Thank you for being part of the journey.

With gratitude,

Cynthia

Hi, I'm Cynthia.

I'm the vintage-loving treasure hunter and storyteller behind The Rusty Rocker. What started as a passion for thrift stores, antique shops, flea markets, and small-town adventures has grown into a creative space where vintage treasures and stories come together.

Through curated vintage finds and my Letters from the Road mail club, I share the nostalgia, roadside discoveries, and unexpected moments that make every journey memorable.

I believe every object has a story, every road leads somewhere interesting, and there's still something special about finding a heart-written letter in your mailbox.

Welcome to The Rusty Rocker. Let's hit the road. 🎸📬
